Drive-up Ear Seeds NOW Open for Duke Employees

May 13, 2020

Acupuncturist Janet Shaffer and Massage Therapist Kim Turk will be applying ear seeds to all Duke employees.

What are ear seeds?

Ears seeds are used as very small acupressure devices, taped into place at useful locations in our ears. They stay in for 3 – 5 days.

Why are we doing this?

This is about your comfort, relaxation and awesomeness. The 5-point pattern of these ear (or auricular) acu-points is applied to support your “calm and carrying on” mode.  The 5-point pattern is known as the NADA protocol and is utilized in a variety of settings to ease stress or pain.

What’s the inspiration for this drive-up, walk-up, meander-up service?

You! Your fantasticness. And the difficulty and changey times that we’re in. Our Curbside project and a related project to get kits to health care and front line workers is inspired by Acupuncturists Without Borders.

So, what do I need to do?

Please bring yourself and your Duke ID to Duke Integrative Medicine and wear a mask. Please! It will be like car line at school or, well, Starbucks.

Where & When?

Meet us safely in the traffic circle in front of Duke Integrative Medicine – 3475 Erwin Road, Durham, NC 27705

When you are “next up” we will give you an alcohol swab to clean your ear. And then you get your seeds.

We would like to have clear access to your ear, so if you can pull your hair back and let your ears stick our a little extra, this is helpful.

Tuesdays – Saturdays

  • Morning Curbside: 7:00 – 10:00 a.m.
  • Afternoon Curbside: 3:30 – 5:30 p.m.

Who can come?

All Duke employees are welcome. Y’all are the first to know! Please share with your friends who are employees.  Continuing Curbside service continues through May.

To see more about auricular acu-points and how to use them, please see this You Tube offering by Acupuncturists Without Borders.

We look forward to seeing you soon.
